Tea Chan

The Oneness of Tea and Meditation

The traditional Tea Chan ceremony creates a space where tea is served in peace and harmony. The practice encourages tea brewers and guests to understand the oneness of tea and meditation in daily life and the importance of balance and harmony in our lives. These elements are expressed in the tea brewing process by thoughtful consideration of the amount of tea and water used and how long to brew the tea for. The consistency and fluidity of the tea brewer’s movements also help to concentrate the brewers’ mind in a similar way to Zen principles. Finally, the brewer can identify the care with which they treat their teaware or the gratitude for the tea that is a gift of nature as a microcosm of wider conduct in life and their gratitude for life in general.

Here we have created a step-by-step guide to help you experience and build moments of mindfulness when making your cup of tea at home.
